In advance of the High Court hearing of the legal challenge to the Government’s position on Article 50, Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP said:
“The UK electorate voted to leave the European Union on 23rd June. Invoking Article 50 is simply the way to implement that decision.
“MPs will have plenty of chance to vote on the various aspects of our membership as the Great Repeal Bill passes through Parliament. The Bill will ensure EU law is passed into domestic law in an orderly manner so that it continues on the day of Brexit and can then be amended by Parliament.
“The claim that the Government is somehow disregarding the authority of Parliament is just plain nonsense.”
