LEADING Brexiteer MP Peter Bone has ridiculed the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) as “absurd” after their president launched a scathing attack on the extent of Theresa May’s Brexit planning.
Tory MP Peter Bone said the Government does not need to pay attention to criticism from the CBI about Theresa May’s Brexit plan, given their record on Europe.
The CBI’s president Paul Drechsler hit out at the Prime Minister last week after he said no company boss would get away with her lack of detail about the future.
However, Mr Bone mocked Mr Drechsler and the CBI chiefs for being the same business voices that called on Britain to join the euro.
Quizzed about the CBI president’s remarks, the Brexiteer told Channel 4 News: “I find it absolutely absurd. Weren’t these the same people who said we ought to go into the euro?
“They were terribly wrong about that. Whether they like it or not, we are delivering on the plan.
“In the end, it doesn’t matter – we are coming out of the EU superstate in 421 days.”
The MP said Mrs May has “hit all of her targets” – regardless of whether the business leaders agree with them or not.
Mr Drechsler had attacked the lack of the Government’s Brexit planning when he said last week: “People seemed to be celebrating the end of phase one of the Brexit negotiations as if it was a touchdown rather than the beginning of the game.
“Cabinet has still not reviewed, evaluated, decided upon the impact Brexit is going to have on different industries.
“No company board would get away with behaving like this.”
